This episode introduces us to the character of Jeff Goldblum as Detective Zach Nichols.
Detective Nichols has returned from a seven-year exile after 9/11 and is teamed up with Detective Megan Wheeler (Julianne Nicholson). The two of them are given a case involving a musician who is found murdered at the bottom of an elevator shaft. The trail leads them to some Brooklyn hipsters who share an artists' loft. The area has a lot of racial issues and tensions, which makes the field of suspects even larger. In the process of the investigation, we see Detective Nichols and learn his quirky mannerisms and way of talking. He even takes the stage and tries his hand at music, quite successfully, to make a point. In the end the episode has little in the way of surprises, but is a nice introduction to Jeff Goldblum's character.
I can't divulge more without giving anything away, but I will say that this episode was worth watching. After all the people who have come and gone on this series, Jeff Goldblum is like a breath of fresh air!
